I first discovered Laura on Instagram. Her photo stream is beautiful, full of pastel colours, crafty projects and her wonderful home. When Laura announced she was starting a blog, I couldn't have been more excited. She doesn't disappoint!
When and why did you start blogging?
I started my blog, We Made This Home, earlier this year. My husband and I have been doing up an old house, in desperate need of modernisation, for the past two and a half years. We had got it to the stage where the decorating and finishing touches were almost ready to be planned and I thought It would be a nice idea to document our journey of making a house a home. I wanted to share little projects, more on the interior side of things rather than the construction (I leave that side to my husband). My blog is a mix of DIY tutorial, from making bunting and revamping old furniture to putting moodboards together of inspiration I have found online.
I found you through your beautiful feed on Instagram and the photos on your blog are equally lovely. What are your tips for taking beautiful photographs?
Oh thank you so much :) I am a Graphic Designer and have learnt a lot about composition and setting up a shot from the people I work with. I have always found homes and interior magazines a good source of inspiration.
I don't know too much about the technical side of taking a good photograph, however I am learning how to get the best out of my DLSR camera. I used to shoot my pictures in auto mode, but have made a conscious effort to switch to manual and play with light and depth of field. A great book that helped me grasp the basics is a book called Plate to Pixel: Digital Food Photography & Styling by Helene Dujardin. I definitely recommend it, she also has a beautiful blog.
My tips for taking a good photograph is to look at what inspires you and keep practicing until you get an image you like. Try to use as much natural light as possible. Another tip would be to learn how to use photo editing software to enhance your photographs. As far as Instagram goes I think a filter always helps, the Nashville filter is my favourite.
You're a very creative lady and your home is beautiful. Where do you look for inspiration and creative ideas?
I find so much of my inspiration for my home from bloggers, Pinterest and Home and Interior magazines.
